Tuesday I went to see the doctor about my migraines which have gotten completely out of control. For the most part they have only been extreme enough to keep me bedridden for a couple of days this past month but it is rare to have a day without either an aura, a tension headache or a migraine. For me the aura can be scary because when I do get them it is very rare that I can fully cut the migraine off at the pass and it wont be just a headache but will involve altering my senses (scent, sight and hearing mostly) and making me very nauseous. I also have had fibromyalgia in the past and have been lucky to have it in remission. For me it means very sores hands, knees and my ankles tweak easily in addition to a general feeling of malaise. I havent been able to wear a watch in decades (though I love them) and rings are usually not comfortable either. When I was going to college for pharmacy my migraines and fibromyalgia exploded. I am almost feeling the same as back then and I am coming to the realization that though I have been able to function at work and other important responsibilities my stress from the past year is expressing itself through the path of least resistance. My handwriting has gone to complete crap. Typing hurts but not as much and many times I find myself turning out lights or looking for quiet. So, I have a new medication to try with my next aura/full blown migraine and my son and I dragged the treadmill out of his room and into my middle room. The last time I had the fibro I would ride my bicycle for at least an hour a day when possible. It was torture to get on the bike but for some reason it tricked my body and helped to suppress the pain over time. This time I am going to give the treadmill a go. Wish me luck because I dont want to get as bad as I did back then. I got through school but only with the help of my friends, especially Susan Waterstone.
