Twenty-first century trends and tribulations. What is the threshold between being organic, vegetarian, vegan, so on and so forth, when utilizing animal products such as leather and fur. Apparently leather is different from fur in that it is usually recycled goods of an already slaughtered cow, rather than a hunted animal pursued specifically for its fur or aesthetic, as seen through a trade such as taxidermy. This is coming from a temperamental vegetarian who put aside eating meat in seventh grade due to ethical reasons after watching a horrific exploitation video of the underground meat industry, produced by Peta. Over time, Ive reintroduced chicken, turkey and beef into my diet. Despite economic reasons to give up meat, such as oppressive methane gases from cattle and hormone inducing genetic mutations in order to feed our ever-growing, just charming human race, in latter years, weve been educated to avoid both plant and meat products that have seemingly transpired from an experiment conjured up in a dexterous laboratory, rather than cultured from the earth. Some people simply dont have the money to afford decent meat products. Some live in food deserts, where the nearest form of protein for miles lies in the form of a phantom burger at the fast food joint around the corner...but most of us have a choice. And so I thought to myself, although the meat I eat had its feathers fluffed, were fed whole grain and free to roam before their time...am I hypocrite, to demand wholesome, organic meat, while standing around in my leather boots?
