Religious groups are predicted to have more than $600 billion in assets. If they were taxed, it would lead to almost $1 billion dollars in extra revenue. This is predicted to be a low ball number, since it doesnt account for other subsidies to religious groups (sales tax exemption, etc.) and only counts the actual churches as assets (many religious groups hold other properties).
