Two men have robbed a hotel near Newcastle overnight. Police have been told the men – one armed with a handgun, the other a machete – entered the business on Sandgate Road, Shortland, shortly after 8.30pm yesterday (Sunday 6 April 2014). They threatened a 20-year-old woman working there and demanded cash. They were handed cash and left the building. They were last seen driving north along Sandgate Road in a dark-coloured sedan. Police have released a description of two men they believe can assist with their inquiries. They are described only as being of Caucasian appearance and aged about 20. The men had their faces covered. A crime scene was established and detectives from Newcastle City are investigating.
