Two new international linkages for HAU The HAU Office of International Affairs (OIA) recently established an international academic cooperation with two universities, namely, Kkottongnae University (KU) in South Korea and the University of Western Sydney (UWS) in Australia. Acting HAU President Engr. Geromin T. Nepomuceno, Jr. and KU President Dr. Lee Won Woo signed the Memorandum of Understanding between HAU and KU during formal signing ceremonies held in the University on July 8, 2014. This was followed by the signing of another Memorandum of Understanding between HAU and UWS by Engr. Nepomuceno and UWS Vice-Chancellor and President Prof. Barney Glover in August. KU was founded by Fr. John Oh, a Korean Catholic priest who received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in Public Service in 1996. It is the foremost university in Korea specializing in Social Welfare. On the other hand, UWS was named as one of the world’s best 100 universities under the age of 50 this year by the influential Times Higher Education, based on “performance indicators such as research, teaching excellence, international outlook, connections with industry, and innovation.” It has a student body of about 42,000. The agreement between the University and its new foreign higher education institution-partners aims to foster mutual cooperation in teaching, curriculum development, training, and research. It encourages visits by and exchange of faculty, researchers, academic personnel, and students; exchange of experts and training programs; exchange of educational literature, research findings, and publications; joint development of curriculum, teaching materials and research projects; and participation in seminars, educational congress, workshops, training courses, and special short-term academic programs.
