Two years ago, Romano Oguma Nero was going about what he does on a daily basis—saving the lives of orphans cast in the bush or sold for the cost of 6-12 cows. On this particular day, however, he’d stopped to pick up six strangers who needed help getting from one village to the next. The road they walked is infamous for bandits and so Romano took pity and gave them a ride. A few miles down the road, five bandits jumped out from the bush and opened fire on Romano’s Land Cruiser.
