UPDATE: Marisa Kay went to Akron childrens hospital last Monday. Our pastor came for support. Marisa was put on a bicycle and she was hooked up to electrodes. We were looking for some muscle stimulation. The electrodes were placed from her gluteus maximus to her ankle. last Monday, she was able to tolerate the pain to her quad long enough to get some stimulation to that muscle, but to no other muscle. This was still a positive appointment, because she was able to get that one muscle to respond. Today, we went back to try the bike again. She did wonderful!!! Her father and I are so proud of her. She worked through the pain and was able to stimulate every one of her muscles on her left leg. So what this means is.... She must have working muscles to get working nerves. Our goal is to continue treatment in hopes that continuing stimulation will continue nerve repair. They say there is no guarantee in complete nerve repair but there will be definite improvement in many aspects of her leg. They also say, one of the most important parts of her recovery has to do with consistency. If all goes well with the next few visits, they are going to recommend for her to have her own bike at home for this to work. Her bike is going to cost between $25,000 and $30,000. We are going to present this to our insurance company but so far, their experience is the insurance companies have not approved these bikes. I will keep everyone updated.
