UPDATE: Pelican Waters – vegetation fire as at 7pm Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) crews will remain at the scene of a large vegetation fire overnight in the vicinity of Mahogany Drive and Bells Creek Road, Pelican Waters. The fire, which started around 10:30am today is moving in a westerly direction and poses no threat to properties. The fire has burnt approximately 70 hectares of land. Residents in the Pelican Waters, Cochin Creek, Bells Creek and west of Bells Creek will be affected by smoke. The Bruce Highway at Bells Creek will experience a significant smoke hazard and motorists are asked to drive to the conditions. Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and those who suffer from respiratory conditions are advised to keep their medications close by.
