UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) is a one of the largest organisation in India. UPSC has a authority to recruit the Brilliant and honest person who has a potential to make effective decision in difficult time for the designation of IAS (Indian Administrative Service),IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IPS (Indian Police Service), IRS (Indian Revenue Service) and many other union government Services posts. UPSC conducts two written examination for the recruitment. Candidates who crack these two examination are called for personal interview.The written examination are Paper-1 (Preliminary Examination) and Paper-2 (main examination). Detailed IAS examination syllabus is given below:- 1) Preliminary Examination:- The basic objective of Preliminary examination is to filter the candidates for eligibility in main examination for IAS (Indian Administrative Service). Preliminary examination has again two paper i.e Paper-1 and Paper-2 each of the examination is of 2 hours and 200 marks. A) Preliminary exam syllabus (Paper-1) :- History of India. Geography of India and world. Political sciences. Economic and Social development of India. Current Affair of India and Abroad. Indian Constitution. Environmental sciences. and Other general Issues. B) Preliminary exam syllabus (Paper-2) :- English Language (class-X level). Reasoning (Logical Reasoning, General mental ability and Decision Making etc. ). Aptitude (Basic numeracy, Data interpretation and Graphs etc. ). Comprehension (Interpersonal skills). Note: If the candidate doesn’t appears in both exams, candidate is disqualified i.e he/she is not eligible for main examination. 2) Main Examination :- Candidates who will crack both preliminary examination will make his/her entry in main examination of IAS. The main purpose to conduct this examination is to know and test the candidate closely. By this examination recruiter can know the skills of candidates and how he is able to handle the problems in difficult situation. Candidates are observed closely whether they have good Knowledge of India and World or not. UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) conducts seven paper for IAS (Indian Administration Services) which are discussed as following:- Paper-1:- a) Essay (250 marks):- It includes Précis Writing and short essay. b) English Language (300 marks):- English Comprehension & English Précis will be included in this. c) English- (300 marks) Candidates can choose there own subject and will be required to write a letter on a specific topic. Note- The syllabus of English language and English will be of matriculation level. These papers are of qualifying nature (except English). Paper-2:- General studies-I (250 marks) The purpose to conduct this examination is to verify the candidate is well known about the following subjects briefly:- Indian heritage and Culture. history of world. Indian society and Diversity of India. Geography of World. Paper-3:- General Studies -II (250 marks) The purpose to conduct this examination is to know the candidate has brief information about following subjects:- Indian Constitution (Functions and responsibilities of the Union and the States, Have effective Comparison of the Indian constitutional scheme with that of other countries, Parliament and State Legislatures) . India and its Neighborhood relations (Important International institutions and agencies) . Government formal and Informal associations. Social justice. Paper-4:- General Studies -III (250 marks) The purpose to conduct this examination is to know the candidate has brief information about following subjects:- Indian Economy. Science and Technology. Security challenges and their management. Environment, Development, Security, Bio diversity and Disaster Management. Paper-5:- General studies-IV (250 marks) The purpose to conduct this examination is to know the candidate has brief information about following subjects:- Ethics and Human Interface. Human Values. Emotional intelligence. Public/Civil service values and Ethics in Public administration. Note- The case studies are also involved in this examination on above topics. Paper-6:- Optional subject (paper-I)- 250 marks. Paper-7:- optional subject (Paper-II)-250 marks. By adding the marks of all main examination the total marks are 1750 (as the Essay and English language is of qualifying nature) So, on the basis of 1750 marks the merit list is prepared. Candidates are called for personal interview and personality test on the basis of merit list. 3) Personal interview and personality test :- 275 marks . So the candidates are evaluated from the 2025 marks for the recruitment of IAS (Indian Administration Services). Note- Candidates can choose any subject as given in Notification.
