US drag supergroup DWV split up The US drag trio, famous for their tongue in cheek parodies of famous pop songs, confirm their break up via frosty exchanges on social media 15 JUNE 2014 | BY LIAM JOHNSON US drag trio DWV have confirmed they have split up, through a series of frosty Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr posts, the three drag queens are going their separate ways. The group made up of drag queens Willam Belli, Detox Icunt and Vicky Vox, formed in 2012. After becoming arguably the most recognizable drag pop group for two years, they have split up. However, many suspect the split may be slightly acrimonious because of some of their comments on social media. On 14 June, Belli replied to a user message on Tumblr about why they group had decided to split. ‘We never planned stuff really and we just don’t have anything coming up. We were just friends putting songs out who then turned into DWV. I would think of something and then we’d round up and do it (exception- Chow Down we all thought of and Gaycation was De’s idea but we all wrote). We no longer have time to make stuff happen like we once did. That’s the reality of it,’ said Belli. ‘I think when people paid us to be the supergroup DWV for their own products, the ending result video wasn’t as whoreganic and fun as what we were known for. ‘The last two years have been a whirlwind of unexpectedness that I wouldn’t trade for anything but I am looking forward to dealing with one tranimal instead of three for a while professionally. It’s just less variables and I’m a creative despot.’ On Twitter, user Frank Newman-Thomas tweeted: ‘@TheVickyVox @willambelli @TheOnlyDetox please stop keeping us in suspense is it true is it true :-( please say you are not breaking up!!! X’ Vox replied confirming the split: ‘it was fun for a while. We are finishing our gigs and Im going on my way.’ Rumours of a rift between the drag queens have been fuelled by other comments on social media. ‘are you ladies still friends?’ asked user Hunty. To which Vox replied: ‘De is my family,’ evidently excluding Belli from the comment. Another user asked Belli the same questioned to which she replied: ‘pack a picnic and see if we show up.’ On Facebook, users suspected Detox was insulting Willem with a status about ‘bearded snakes’, as Willem is often criticized for her beard visible under her make-up. ‘Bearded snakes in the grass will always bite you in the ass. There’s a reason so many people hate working with you...’ Belli starred on season 4 of US TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race, the show which also brought Detox to prominence, as she starred on the fifth season. Vox is a California-based drag queen who is the drag daughter of Detox. The group famously parodied songs from Robin Thicke, Alicia Keys and Wilson Phillips with their own tongue in cheek versions. Their song ‘Boy Is A Bottom’ has over 13 million views on YouTube. Watch their most famous song here:
