UTTARAKHAND DISASTER & CLIMATE CHANGE Due to global warming not only the precipitation is increasing the in the Himalayas, but it is raining instead of snowing and this is a catastrophe of double proportion. In the upper reaches of Himalayas, it generally snows rather than rains, above 8,000 feet, there is no tree cover and land is very steep and eroded, hence the land has little ability to absorb rain water. The steep slopes and eroded nature of terrain hastens the flood. In case of snow, it melts gradually and the danger of flood does not arise and would be feeding the rivers perennially. THINK OF THIS EVERY TIME YOU USE ELECTRICITY, FUEL, USE SPRAYS OR LITTER PLASTICS- YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO DETERIORATION IN ECOLOGY.
