#UmbrelllaMovement Highlights of the debate style talks today between Hong Kong government and Students Protester side: 1. Alex Chow: HKFS secretary-general, student at the University of Hong Kong 2. Lester Shum: HKFS deputy secretary-general, student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong 3. Yvonne Leung: HKFS spokesperson, student at the University of Hong Kong and president of its student union 4. Nathan Law: Student at Lingnan University 5. Eason Chung: Student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong Government side: 1. Carrie Lam: Chief Secretary for Administration 2. Rimsky Yuen: Secretary for Justice 3. Raymond Tam: Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs. 4.Edward Yau: Director of the Chief Executive’s Office* 5. Lau Kong-wah: Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs* * These guys said nothing Key takeaways -- At todays debate between HK gov & students, the people who spoke from the gov side were all bureaucrats, not politicians Crowds jeered and bood at Carrie Lams response to students about police violence. Carrie Lam said any 2017 proposal amending Basic Law to include public nomination isnt viable but the government was prepared to consider submitting a new report to the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office about the public reaction to the political framework set out by the National Peoples Congress Standing Committee for Hong Kong in August. Powerful quote from Lester Shum: “Have we not made enough concessions? So many young people have sacrificed their studies and time. We are even willing to be arrested and go to jail. What do we want? The right to vote, the right to be voted and voter equally. “Now the government is only telling us to pack up and go home. The whole generation, awakened by tear gas, cannot accept this. We are the generation chosen by times [to come forward]. I think the same applies to you - you are the officials chosen by times. Can you be responsible? Or will you will be the ones that kill our political future and be the sinners of a thousand years? HK students are not happy with outcome of talks - they believe that submitting a report to Central authorities is standard procedure. Whatever they do in Hong Kong, they still have to submit a report to the HK gov. Im disappointed --- Joshua Wong Ale Chow described the dialogue as peaceful, but the proposals put forward by the government were kind of vague. Student occupiers are wondering what kind of proposal the government is actually proposing --- Alex Chow Earlier in the day, before the talks, Chief Executive, C Y Leung, told international media that if his government met the demands of protesters who have been occupying some key roads in Hong Kong as part of the ongoing civil disobedience movement for genuine democracy, it would result in the citys poorer people dominating elections. What bollocks!
