Theory - Theory is a contemplative and rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking. Depending on the context, the results might for example include generalized explanations of how nature works. Methods - a particular form of procedure for accomplishing or approaching something, especially a systematic or established one. Rhetoricians - an expert in formal rhetoric. A speaker whose words are primarily intended to impress or persuade. Elocutionist - a public speaker trained in voice production and gesture and delivery Social science - the scientific study of human society and social relationships. Approach - come near or nearer to (someone or something) in distance. Behaviorism - the theory that human and animal behavior can be explained in terms of conditioning, without appeal to thoughts or feelings, and that psychological disorders are best treated by altering behavior patterns. Naturalistic - relating to everyday, real life situations such as a class room café or shopping mall Quantitative methods – methods that convert data to numerical indicators, and then analyze these numbers using statistics to establish relationships among the concepts Demand -withdrawal – an interaction pattern in which one partner criticizes or tries to change the other partner, who responds by becoming defensive and then disengaging- either psychologically or physically Attachment ---- an emotional tie such as children develop with their caregivers Interpretive approach –contemporary term for humanistic (rhetorical) study Rhetoric - the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. Humanism – a system of thought that celebrates human nature and its potential Qualitavtive methods – methods in which researchers study naturally occurring communication rather than assembling data and converting it to numbers Content analiysis – approach to understanding communication that focuses on specific aspects of the content of a ext or a group of texts Ethnographic –relating to studies in which researchers actively engage with participants Rhetorical analysis –used by researchers to examine text or public speeches as they occur in society with the aim of interpreting textual meaning Critical approach –an approach used not only to understand human behavior but ultimately change society. Textual analysis – similar to rhetorical analysis; used to analyze cultural “products”’ such as media and public speeches Apply to what you know? Q #2 I choose to identify my topic as deception. With three different viewpoints on this topic it would be able to be researched from the instigator the victim and the jury. Each would be able to see a different view point and see how each feels about what happened regarding deception. The instigator would emphasize on why, the victim would emphasize on effect, and the jury would emphasize on a third person party view point. By asking the aspects of the individuals. Each would have reason to what they feel in which the effects played would be except the instigator for being the cause.
