University of Tasmania first class honours agricultural science graduate, Peter Targett, has quantified the factors causing quality loss in walnuts. Rancid oils in poorly stored walnuts give walnuts a bitter taste. Mr Targett found walnut quality can be accurately predicted by the colour of the kernal membrane. Each year there are around 800 agricultural science graduates in Australia with a staggering 5,000 jobs available. No other degree offers virtual certainty of employment after graduation.
