Up until about 2 Years ago, I had never filed to receive any VA benefits. I always figured there was nothing wrong with me and the Vets that are coming home now needed it WAY more than me and I wasnt going to get in their way. About 2 years ago, I had my ears professionally test. Ive had significant hearing loss for 20+ years. (We didnt use much hearing protection back then while firing.) As suspected, I have about 70% loss in each ear. When I priced the hearing aides there, $4,000 was a bit out of my price range, so I decided to go file at the VA and see what I could get done. The young lad behind the counter, who seemed he just couldnt be bothered, told me I was wasting my time and I wouldnt be approved for it because I didnt claim the hearing loss when I got out in 91. Now it seems that something should have been done about this. But I dont know what. And I still feel that other vets need their benefits more than I do.
