Update: Duane and I spoke with Heber tonight over dinner. His voice is quite strong as he strives to stay upbeat. We definitely heard that going forward person. But even so, he admitted that putting on a bold face for others can be hard when there is a little part inside of him that is scared (being this sick is new territory for this going forward person). He advised that he doesnt know how prisoners make it in solitude. That would have been a funny comment if it didnt reflect his true feelings quite so closely. Even nurses are limited in visiting people who are quarantined... this can be especially hard for those of us who are people people as is Heber (and me) ... For this reason, Duane is encouraging those who are close enough to have his cell phone number to set a few minutes aside to pop in and call... share a story, listen to his story, make sure there is a smile in your voice, a sympathetic ear and an encouraging word on hand (Most likely, he will try to encourage you). For those uncomfortable with calling and/or dont feel close enough to call, below is the address for cards...
