Update: One week ago I went into surgery to have my back repaired by Craig Humphreys of Kenai Spine at CPH to address chronic issues which have debilitated me for nearly two years. After 5 hrs in surgery a team of 4 doctors let me loose with a fused L5-S1 vertebrae and a disc replacement on the L4-L5 level above, having gone in through my abdomen for access. One week out I can tell you it has been both the most awful and yet wonderful experience. I awoke without back pain! I experience more back pain. At all. It is such a liberation...I have no adequate way to describe it. Words like freedom & grateful dont even come close. My abdomen has been the kicker..lots was stretched, bruised, cut apart & sewn back together on lots of levels. It is healing slowly but Im gaining on it. I gain greater mobility each day & am finally able to begin decreasing my meds. I am still on a tight med regimen, using a walker, and wearing an abdominal binder. But I am no longer afraid of moving and more able to take care of myself day by day. I thank you all for all of your encouragement, support, love & healing prayers. Thanks for all the well wishes, visits, cards, unexpected gifts, meals, etc. I offer a special nod to Karen Wilcox for flying up here to take the helm for a few weeks. Shes diefied now lol. I have a follow up appt w/ my spine surgeon a week from today. Ill let you know how it goes.
