Updates to the Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper Project Earlier this year, while processing a collection, the Rauh Jewish Archives found microfilm of some early issues of the Jewish Criterion that had not previously been available. We provided the microfilm to CMU so that these issues could be made accessible through the Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper Project (PJN). CMU has recently informed the Rauh Jewish Archives of the following additions and changes to the PJN: -The completion of the digitization of microfilm containing many of the missing issues of the Jewish Criterion. This has now been uploaded, adding 3,448 missing images to the Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper database. Many of the missing images came from 1917 and the 1920s. -The completion of web optimization of the PJN content. All of the content from the four collections [the Jewish Criterion, the American Jewish Outlook, the Jewish Chronicle, and the Y-JCC series] has been preprocessed to create PDFs that are smaller in size and download more quickly. The smaller PDFs are delivered to users, which improves system performance and ease of use. We expect that users will have a more pleasurable experience when using the system. Susan M.
