Useful wreath greenery...Lynda Dowlings Favourites! Azara, Acacia, Artemesia, Aucuba, Boxwood (especially the cream edged one), Callicarpa (lovely mauve berries), Camellia bud tips, Cedar, Choisya, Cistus, Cotoneaster, dainty Ivy trailers, Douglas Fir, Eucalyptus, Garrya with catkins, Heather (especially sin bloom), Hebe (esp small leaved), Hedera, Hemlock, fancy Hollies, Juniper (esp blue toned ones), silvery Lavender sprigs, local Conifers, Nandina (esp new growth burgundy sprigs), Osmanthes burkwoodi, Pernettya (lovely berries), Pieris (with unfurled bloom tips if you are lucky), Pine, Portuguese Laurel (esp variegated one), Prostranthus aka Australian Bush mint, Pyracanthus (watch the spines), Rhodo buds & collars, Sarcococca aka Sweet Box, Sage sprigs, Grey or Green Santolina, Senecio, Skimmia, Spiraea douglasii, Spruce (can be prickly), Viburnum tinus (blue berries), Sequoia dendrons...upright Thymes. Remember to use a strong background of a common greens so the fancies on the surface layer stand out! Also, it will be less expensive to use what you have from the backyard, then purchase 3 or 4 handfuls of something exotic! Wire in cones after you have completed the circle of greens. Ribbons, Bows & Bling are added last... With my wrapping method: first make 20 mini bundles for a 12-14 inch wreath base. These mini-bundles are laid out with a common background of 2-5 green sprigs, then a fancy or two laid in a pattern, or random, on top. ...Think of flowers showing up against a green bush in your garden. When your bundles are all laid out, then you attach simple twine to your base & begin to attach your bundles to your frame by wrapping with the twine, about an inch from the stem ends...moving forward as you layer each bundle around your base. Longer sprigs will give the allusion of a larger or bolder wreath with a swirl to the foliage! Shorter fatter bundles will make the wreath denser. The last bundle is tucked under your first bundle tips, so start with a flexible first bundle (no berries to knock off) & tie your twine off. Hold your wreath up, facing you, turning to decide where is up . Add a ZAP strap for a hanger at the back top frame. Place on a hook or doorknob nearby to decide how much more you wish to decorate it...cones, bows, birds...ornaments.
