Starting Date: Immediate Organization Profile Building Markets is a non-partisan, non-political organization (NGO) that builds markets, creates jobs and sustains peace in developing countries by championing local entrepreneurs and connecting them to new business opportunities. Building Markets flagship initiative, the Sustainable Marketplace Initiative, provides a suite of services proven to catalyze economic growth and to create, restore, and sustain livelihoods. To date, these projects have redirected over $1 billion into developing economies. Project Context Building Markets contribute to private sector development by linking international, regional and national buyers with capable local entrepreneurs. Building Markets is operating in Yangon since 2012 and has already profiled more than 1,000 businesses in Myanmar, helping hundreds local SMEs to find new clients and get new contracts. We are seeking resourceful and motivated staff, interested in private sector development, to participate to our programme expansion over the next 2 years. Positions Overview Business Relationship Officer (BRO) The Business Relationship Officer (BRO) is responsible for establishing, developing and sustaining good relationships with local SMEs, and therefore contributes significantly to the dynamic and success of the programme. In particular, BROs are responsible for the overall development and management of a country-specific business verification process based on face-to-face interviews. An effective business verification methodology and process will result in the development of a robust and steadily growing list of verified local businesses on the Business Directory. Business Relationship is the cornerstone of all Building Markets’ activities. Starting with a business verification process, it provides buyers with a detailed picture of the goods and services available from local businesses as well as key information such as legal status, ownership structure, track record and key contact details. Given the fluid environments in which Building Markets often operates integrity of data is absolutely crucial to the cultivation of new business relationships with local suppliers. Responsibilities and Duties Tasks for this position include, but are not limited to the following: • Be the personal contact for local SMEs, and guarantee a fluid and fruitful relationship between Building Markets and its members • Conduct region and/or sector wide verification visits to register local businesses: interview of business owners/managers using a face-to-face questionnaire. • Recruit active members and “champions” by promoting services offered by Building Markets. • Process information obtained during verification (data entry) and ensure that all relevant verification track sheets are updated and edited daily. • Collaborate with the other departments (Matchmaking, Training, Research, Communication) and provincial branches to build a consistent and regular flow of information between the programme and its members: distribution of tenders, information about trainings, etc. • Conduct impact surveys, interviews, verification and re-verification update calls as required. Required qualifications, skills and experience • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent • Solid English skills both written and oral • Proven ability to work with MS Word and Excel • Demonstrated experience managing the administrative and logistical needs of an organization • Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of the Myanmar and expat staff, local vendors, government officials and Building Markets partners • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Solid understanding of Myanmar business environment and motivation to promote private sector development in Myanmar • Entrepreneurial and resourceful attitude If you meet these qualifications, please send the following, attached in an email to [email protected]: 1.
