VIOLENCE AT BOWEN UNIVERSITY, AUTHOURITY CLOSEDOWN THE INSTITUTION. The Authority of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun state have shut down the institution. The institution was shut down because of student’s unrest over lack of electricity and water supply . Osun state correspondent, Adeniyi Folorunso reports that, the aggrieved students vandalized properties worth millions of naira within the campuses on Wednesday. these are the students of Bowen University Iwo being ejected from the school premises. This is because of the violence they embarked upon this Wednesday when the electricity went off in their hostels while watching European’s league. The students claimed that they had been facing epileptic supply of water and electricity for the past few weeks. the tension was heightened with a timetable released by the institutions authorities spelling out new rules. The new timetable stipulates that all students must leave their hostels by 8am whether they have lectures or not and must return until 4pm and this seems not go down well with students. The vice chancellor of the Bowen University denied claims of the students on any restriction, and that water and electricity regularly supplied in their hostels. He said that ten students have arrested by the police, while they are trying to looted and vandalized properties within the school premises. The situation of school closure may not go down well with the students, but the commercial motorists and motorcycle were happy, as their business are boom by transporting students out of the school premises. There is possibility of the students resume on April 1st to enable the final year students mobilising for NYSC not to miss the opportunity. It would be recalled that, the Bowen University is a private institution owned by the Nigerian Baptist convention.
