VOICE OF LIBERTY DEVOTIONAL BY: Victory Jazrel Joseph DATE: Saturday, January 3, 2015. TOPIC: In the beginning OPENING SCRIPTURE: Genesis 1:31 – God saw all that he had made, and it was very good... [NIV]. MAIN TEXT: Ephesians 5:1 says “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children”. In Matthew 11:29, Jesus Christ encourages us to LEARN OF HIM to find rest for our souls. This two scriptures are telling us that if we would learn God’s principles as recorded in the scriptures and apply them, we will get positive results in all our endeavors and enter into God’s rest. The first chapter of the book of Genesis details the principles that God used in the beginning of creation. If we would learn and apply these principles as this year is still just beginning, I’m persuaded that the time will come within the year or at the end when we will look at our results and see that it is very good just like God did. Two of these principles are: 1. GET YOUR LIGHT ON: The first thing God put in place before He created anything was light (Genesis 1:3). Light signifies knowledge. Knowledge is the first necessary requirement of success. We must seek both spiritual and professional knowledge. We gain spiritual knowledge by studying and meditating on the Word of God. 1 Peter 2:2 says “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”. We must also gain professional knowledge in our area of discipline. To be a standout, a pacesetter, a trailblazer, indispensable and the first person to call when people think about our profession, we must make knowledge a priority. Proverbs 23:23 says Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and knowledge, and understanding. 2. SEPARATE YOUR LIGHT FROM YOUR DARKNESS: After God saw that the light was good, He immediately separated the light from darkness (Genesis 1:3). I believe God was teaching us the principle of prioritization. To achieve any measure of success in life, we must learn to identify and separate unproductive activities from productive ones; what moves us forward from what cause us to stagnate; what energizes us from what drains us. In Genesis 1:16, God created the Sun, moon and stars from the initial light He called to being. The Bible doesn’t tell us that God ever did anything with the darkness after He separated it from the light. This is teaching us to do away with unproductive activities that stagnates and drains us. Be imitators of God as dear children! PRAYER: Dear God, I ask that you cause me to will and to do according to the principles of your word in all my endeavours this year in Jesus name!
