Vacation travel to Bavaria Germany and Salzburg Austria is done. Significant history and pleasant helpful people. Saw very few overweight people; however, smoking was common place. Well engineered, organized and run in just about everything we saw. Roads and facilities were very clean, recycling is at an extremely high level, solar and wind energy source facilities abound, energy and water conservation controls are widely implemented. Significant road and trail networks and traffic controls. Flew Condor Air direct to Frankfurt and rented a car to see many amazing natural and historic sites through cities, alpine villages, and the Austrian and Bavarian Alps. From the Autobauns to switch back single track roads speeds ranged from 120kmph+ with cars passing us, to 5-10kmph - without guard rails. Not knowing where we were going to be each night, we booked accommodations using booking at coffee time using Mcdonalds Wi-Fi :-) Drove from Frankfurt to Nuremburg. Visited German National Museum (gnm.de/englische-seite/), the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds(museums.nuremberg.de/documentation-centre/index.html) , and the Memoriam Nuremburg Trials (memorium-nuremberg.de/index.html). Dachau next day to visit the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site (kz-gedenkstaette-dachau.de/index-e.html). This was the most moving and reflective part of the trip. In Obersalzberg we visited Hitlers tea house known as the Eagles Nest. kehlsteinhaus.de/en/kehlsteinhaus.php?navid=1 Salzburg, Austria was the most difficult city to get around due to the very narrow roads and pedestrian only streets in the city centre. Beautiful spot - birthplace of Mozart and location filming of The Sound of Music. Took the Sound of Music Tour through Panorama Tours. Amazing sights and people. panoramatours/de/salzburg/tour/tour-1a-original-sound-of-music-tour-R-27/ Over two days visited three exquisite castles (schloss in German)near Fussen in the Bavarian Apls: Linderhoff Castle (linderhof.de) ; Neuschwanstein Castle (neuschwansteincastle.net); and Hohenschwangau Castle (bavaria.by/hohenschwangau-castle-bavaria). Final day drove 65 kilometres along the panorama road from Freudenstadt through the northern Black Forest to Baden-Baden (blackforest-tourism/Black-Forest/tourist-routes/schwarzwaldhochstrasse) then headed back to Frankfurt to fly home. Good to be back home.
