Volchek: If you could influence EDM culture or music, what would it be? -Demien: I think you are right and that EDM is still pretty much in its early stages. We are seeing more and more genres being thrown into the EDM world via remixes or completely original spins. I’m trying to not be too much of an original spin, since I know how difficult it can be to reach out people that way, so instead my current goal is to obtain a sound that is 100% compatible with the current trends of the music (using top 100 Beatport music as a reference), and then giving it my original spin. My original spin includes something that I hope to leave as a legacy to those who connect with my music. My productions are authentically composed to drive a specific set of high energy & tension release, and these energies are all part of the songs concept, or main theme. For example, if I write a song based on a particular sci-fi theme, I make sure that the delivery of notes, beats and the way the arrangement is setup is completely driven by the overall concept. I also go further, as much as I can, and create artwork which matches the concept well, and for particular songs I even go into costume design, which I wear at live performances to finally bring these concepts to life. The overall message is that I want to create more than just beats, but then more than just a song with a title, I want my ideas to be seen clearly. Clarity to me is essential and I use it to fight what I consider the “epidemic of indifference” which is plaguing the pop culture and affecting many of us as different levels. To go even further, I’m currently working with a spoken word artist from NY, called The Singular Effect, to bring forward the story of Demien Sixx starting from the point where he left Zombieland (my second album is called Rage in Zombieland, and the sequence of the song tells a short story). 3 songs are already being adapted to fit this story, and when all the songs are ready, there will be an album featuring 2 versions of each song, one of these versions telling a part of the story. This was a segment of the EDM interview that Volcheck did on me this weekend (Read more at volchekshot.me/demien-sixx-thunderdome-preview/)
