Volunteers are needed for the Disaster Action Team for Montgomery - TopicsExpress

Volunteers are needed for the Disaster Action Team for Montgomery County I have received a request from our local American Red Cross emergency response manager, Angelika Klapputh, inquiring if any of you might be willing to serve the Red Cross on the Disaster Action Team for Montgomery County. Angelika advises that one of her priorities remains to step up recruitment efforts for our Disaster Action Team. These are the folks that go out to assist those most in need with food, shelter and clothing after (mostly)structure fires. We currently have exceptionally poor coverage in eastern Montgomery County and often count on Schenectady County folks to help us out- her aim is to change that. Once folks are signed up as volunteers it is a matter of taking two short online classes to become a trainee, and start going out to calls with an experienced DAT. Once the trainee feels ready to move up there are additional online classes to take as well as one in-person class, which is taught by our DAT coordinator who is a friend….so he will come to us if we need him to. If you have an interest in serving please let me know and contact Angelika to begin the process. This is a very important part of serving our community and making Montgomery County one of the most prepared and best at recovery in the State. Thank you for your help with this important service. Thank you for your consideration!! Jeffery T.
