Volunteers from Marine Rescue Batemans Bay and Browlee Surf Life Saving have worked together to save a father and his daughter after their runabout washed on to rocks on Jimmies Island off the NSW South Coast this morning. Batemans Bay 20, with skipper Mick Syrek, Matt Mason and Peter O’Brien on board, responded following a call for help from the pair about 11.15am, reporting that their 5.6m boat was on the rocks on the island, offshore from Rosedale, south of Batemans Bay. The pair were uninjured. With the rocky outcrop preventing BM 20 from reaching the pair, the SLS members on board an inflatable boat safely retrieved them and transferred them to the Marine Rescue vessel. BM 20 took the runabout under tow and made a slow trip back to Batemans Bay into a northeasterly wind, returning safely by 2.15pm. MRNSW Monaro Regional Controller Bob Herbert congratulated the MR Batemans Bay and SLS volunteers for their efforts in the joint rescue operation. “Our members train and work together to ensure they can work seamlessly together on operations such as this to save lives on the water,” he said.
