The Western Pennsylvania Black Political Assembly (WPBPA) is in full agreement and in full support of the ruling handed down by the Honorable Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard McGinley striking down the Pennsylvania Voter ID bill as unconstitutional. His most poignant statement that Voting laws are designed to assure a free and fair election, the Voter ID Law does not further this goal. is derived from the broadly shared belief enshrined in our body politic that unfettered and liberal access to voting by all citizens in the Commonwealth and this country is paramount. It is our fervent hope that the PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane would not consider an appeal to the Commonwealth Court ruling issued by Judge McGinley. To do so would only serve to continue to provide a cloud over the voting process in Pennsylvania and potentially discourage citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote. On the eve of the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birth this would be the right thing to do. Therefore, the WPBPA will do everything in its power to encourage all citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to contact the Office of the Attorney General to dissuade her from appealing the Commonwealths decision.
