WHATS A HURRICANE HEAT? The Hurricane Heat was born in August - TopicsExpress

WHATS A HURRICANE HEAT? The Hurricane Heat was born in August 2011. On the advice of local emergency services a US Spartan Race was cancelled due to severe weather, which was later named Hurricane Irene. There was a loud minority of racers who didnt see this as valid and wouldnt let it go. Joe Desena, Spartan Race founder eventually posted, if you want to do the course in a hurricane, then be there at 6am. 100 or so people showed up, and JD took them over the course as a team, adding a number of obstacles and challenges along the way. The weather became the least of their problems. Since then Hurricane Heats have been run at selected races, often with JD or other Spartan dignitaries in attendance to dish it out. Due to overwhelming demand we opened Saturday sprints at Brisbane and Sydney, and the Sunday Sprint will now be run as a Hurricane Heat, and Sunday racers have been given a choice to move to Saturday or stay for the HH. Based on the feedback we will receive from you, we will look at offering a Hurricane Heat at as many of our races as poss in 2015.
