WHY UWADIA THE COMMISSIONER OF EDOSOGPADEC AND HIS WHEELBARROW EMPOWERMENT MUST BE BROUGHT TO BOOK BY EDO STATE OIL PRODUCING COMMUNITY AND THE GENERAL EDO PEOPLE... Civil society organizations has the inherent responsibility and mandate to check the excesses of corrupt public officers and to drag them to appropriate quarters where they can be brought to book as specified by the laws of the land, as long as the interest of the general public can be better protected by the prosecution of such public officer, the need to drag out such public officer will become so sacrosanct... In line with the responsibility inherent on the Civil Society Organization, i wish to better expose the failure cum corrupt nature and the illegal diversion of public funds been perpetuated by Mr Uwadia who is the commissioner of EDOSOGPADEC here in Edo State.... Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) was set up to accelerate the development and transformation of Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State... It was mandated to act as an interventionist agency in areas of infrastructural and manpower development in target Oil and Gas Producing Communities.. The vision of the commission is to create a just and equitable distribution of the resources from Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Local Government Area in order to ensure that they enjoy improved basic amenities of life and are adequately empowered. While the mission is to achieve increased satisfaction of Oil and Gas Producing Areas through the provision of infrastructural facilities and socio-economic empowerment to transform the rural economy..... The Commission at present has its Corporate Headquarters in Benin City and it is required by law to maintain area offices in the three Oil and Gas producing local government areas. The functions in accordance with the law establishing it are: Receive into its account and administer exclusively 40% of the 13% oil derivation fund accruing to the Edo State Government for: (a) The development of Oil and Gas Producing Areas in the State and the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure; (b) Other developmental projects as may be prioritized by the Communities in the Oil and Gas Producing Areas through needs assessment and also as the Commission may determine from time to time; Liaise with the relevant Federal Government and State Government authorities on the control and effective methods of tackling the problems of coastal erosion, Oil and Gas pollution, spillages and other environmental problems in the State; Ensure fair and equitable distribution of developmental projects in the Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State; Ensure the judicious utilization of the fund accruing to the Commission; Enlighten the communities in the Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State on the functions, policies and activities of the Commission; Execute such other works and projects and perform such other functions which in the opinion of the Commission are necessary for the sustainable development of the Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State; Liaise with the Oil and Gas Prospecting Companies operating in the Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State to solicit assistance in the areas of development of the Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State; Liaise with the Niger Delta Development Commission for the overall development of Oil and Gas Producing Areas of the State. With the synopsis of the commission that i have just provided above,Edo people will agree with me that revenue are getting into the commission from different ramification without any work to show for such money that has been getting into the commission for some period of time and this is against the backdrop of the fact that basic 300million Naira is been allocated to the commission in a monthly basses... We can recall back to 2013-08-26 13:09 where Edo Government has assured the people of the three oil-producing local government areas of the state that it would execute quality and sustainable projects for them. Orobosa Omo-Ojo, the Edo Commissioner for Special Duties, Oil and Gas, gave the assurance in Benin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Omo-Ojo said that the projects would be executed through the Edo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOPADEC). Omo-Ojo said that EDSOPADEC was currently executing 169 various projects that would help to bring speedy development to the councils - Ovia North-East, Orhionmwon and Ikpoba-Okha. He said that the projects, which included school buildings, solar-powered bore-holes and health centres, were in different stages of completion. He said that the agency also embarked on the construction of a 10-km road in each of the the areas to link their communities. Because of the state government’s shift in ideology in relation to leadership, it has embarked on the execution of quality and sustainable projects for the people. The relationship between my ministry and the agencies is that of supervision; it is our responsibility to ensure that these projects are executed according to specifications of the designs. The era of tokenism and self-aggrandisement when you can just erect one structure and call it VIP toilet is gone. “The state government has come up with standard prototype of projects it hopes to provide for the people,” he said. I wish to ask a simple question, does it mean that UWADIA thinks that Edo People are fools? where has the money allocated to the commission been going to? Where are the project been executed as said by Omo Ojo? We wish to inform Uwadia the commissioner of EDOSOGPADEC that we will never relent in our quest to bring him to justice as no body is above the law of the land.. We are going to launch a fierce media onslaught and mass mobilization of the general public including members of international community for them to be aware of the economic and political terror been orchestrated against us by the commissioner of EDOSOGPADEC, as we continue to call on the appropriate anti graph agency to investigate the activities of EDOSOGPADEC under the tutelage of Uwadia....
