WHY YOU SHOULDNT DO DIRECT AB TRAINING I was sitting down with a client today and she asked me why we dont do any ab work. Which I thought was a great question... Here was my response. If you are training correctly then every single movement requires you to stabalize yourself with your core. By stabalize I mean flex your abs so that they almost touch your spine. Examples would be as you go into a lunge your torso should be straight up and down so that you dont lean forward and thus pushing your knee over your toe. Or another example would be while doing a rope tricep pressdown you should again flex your abs attempting to pin them to your spine thus stabilizing you so you can keep your elbows tight allowing you to properly extend the rope and get the complete contraction of the tricep. Another reason I do not train direct ab work is because they are a muscle like any other muscle and they to have the ability to grow under the correct stimulus. Since most of the time people are doing abs to reduce body-fat in that area which is physiologically impossible it makes even less sense to train direct ab work. If you happen to do what I have just explained above, do yourself a huge favor message me set up a time to do a phone consult and I can assure you I will help you reduce the body-fat around your lower abs.
