WILL DEFEND SPECIAL STATUS OF JK AT ANY COST: MALIK JKLF HOLDS RALLY AGAINST PROPOSED SETTLEMENT OF WEST PAK REFUGEES Srinagar, Jan 16 : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Friday said they will defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir even at the cost of their lives and fight all those forces “who want to change demography of Jammu Kashmir and turn Muslim majority into minority.” Ailing Malik while speaking to media before leading a protest rally from Maqbool Manzil here today said, “Kashmiris will defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir even at the cost of their lives. Jammu Kashmir is a land full of forests and water bodies and lands of this kind are protected throughout the universe. State subject law is not associated to Jammu Kashmir only. Many Indian hilly sates like Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram are also having similar kind of laws to safeguard their ecology and environment.” “This is the reason because of which erstwhile Maharaja of Jammu Kashmir had enacted this law prohibiting every outsider from permanently residing in Jammu Kashmir. But unfortunately religious fanatics in India portray this as something different and are hell bent upon destroying this special status of Jammu Kashmir for their pity political gains and occupation on Jammu Kashmir. These chauvinist forces and religious fanatics in 1947 massacred lakhs of Muslims in Jammu with impunity and thus changed the demography of Jammu city completely,” he alleged. “The properties of those massacred or driven out forcefully to Azad Kashmir were confiscated and when state assembly in 1982 passed a resolution regarding those people, Indian state through its judiciary opposed and halted the resolution. The condemnable conspiracies hatched at the behest of RSS and its allies under the garb of religion will go disparaged. We will fight these conspiracies united and will not allow anyone to play with our identity,” Malik vowed. The JKLF chairman said that as humans “we also share the pain of refugees from West Pakistan but if Indian state, its parliament and political parties are concerned about these humans why don’t they settle them permanently in states of India like Punjab, Haryana, UP.” “Why are they hell bent upon destroying Jammu Kashmir, its ecology and special status only? The refugees from West Pakistan are in every respect the citizens of India. They are not part of Jammu Kashmir and will never be so in future also. Granting them permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir, right to vote etc are a conspiracy to destroy the existing social fabric of Jammu Kashmir, change the demography of the state and destroy its majority Muslim status. He said that People of Jammu Kashmir will never remain silent spectators over these conspiracies and we will defend the special status of Jammu Kashmir, its Muslim character, its ecology and environment even at the cost of their lives,” Malik added. He said that resistance against these conspiracies will continue and JKLF will through protest sit-in, processions, seminars and other programs throughout various districts of Jammu Kashmir continue this protest to safeguard the special status of Jammu Kashmir. Meanwhile, a JKLF spokesman in a statement said, “As announced previously, a protest rally was taken out against proposed granting of permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir to refugees from West Pakistan. The rally led by ailing JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was attended by thousands of people from all walks of life. JKLF leaders, activists, people from other resistance parties including chairperson APDP Parveena Ahangar Chanting slogans in favor of Azadi, martyrs, and resistance and against attempts to change demography of Jammu Kashmir, the participants of the rally marched towards Lal Chowk.” “The protesters were stopped by police and CRPF who had cordoned the whole area in their pursuit to stop this peaceful program. Police laid barricades at Budshah Chowk and tried to stop the rally there but the participants resisted the police move and continued their march towards Lal Chowk. After the rally passed Budshah Chowk, police resorted to cane charge and unprecedented pepper gas shelling that injured dozens of participants including JKLF activists Abdul Hamid who has been hit by a shell in his head and Azhar Ahmad etc. police on the occasion arrested JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik along with Mohammad Sideeq Shah, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Bashir Ahmad Boya and Imtiyaz Ahmad. Similar kind of protest rally was taken out in Handwara today where JKLF district president Rafiq Ahmad War led a procession at central Chowk Handwara. Rafiq Ahmad War along with Abdul Majeed Shah, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir and Ghulam Mohammad Malik etc were arrested by police on the occasion,” he said. “It is worth to mention that Yasin Malik who had received injuries in his right leg because of police shelling and cane charge on 24th December 2014 when he was on hunger strike at Lal Chowk is ill from last many days. His right leg had developed swelling and he is bed ridden from last many days.
