WILL NKANA FINALLY BEAT ZESCO? When ZSL 2013 Champions Nkana line up at Nkana Stadium against Zesco United one thing will be on each player and fans mind. Will this be the day that Nkana finally breaks the jinx and beats Zesco United. Ever since Zesco United got promoted into the ZSL in 2004 Nkana has failed to beat Zesco in 13 games. Nkana suffered its worst defeat in 2007 when in Division 1 it reached the Coca Cola Cup final only to be demolished 5-0 by a Zesco side that had Rainford Kalaba pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Nkana have come close on a number of occasions. Most recently in 2013 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium Nkana took the lead through striker Festus Mbewe early in the second half. Only for Zesco to score 3 goals. It was a win that took Zesco to the top displacing Nkana. Today a Nkana win will not take the team to the top but will definitely put Nkana a point behind Zesco who are in Second place. With Nkana playing catch up with these rescheduled matches a win today and a win on Saturday against Nchanga Rangers will ensure that Nkana will be in 2nd place in midseason.
