WORSHIP SONG for FRIDAY - We normally think of SHOUTING as being something someone does while in either an angry mood or at a sports or entertainment event. Spiritual experiences are thought of as something to much quieter about and there is an aspect of spirituality that should be that. The Bible tells us that all the world should be silent before the Lord and that our walk with HIM should be one of peace, contemplation and gentle prayer. BUT the WORD also tells us to SHOUT to the LORD and worship HIM with a LOUD NOISE! Theres a time to be quiet and theres a time to be LOUD, a time for a whisper and a time for a SHOUT! King David, one of my favorite song writers wrote these words as found in Psalm 98 - SHOUT to the LORD all the earth, break out in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise to the LORD with the harp and songs of melody, with trumpets and the sound of the trumpet. Make a joyful symphony before the LORD, the King! Let the sea and everything in it SHOUT His praise! Let the earth and all living things join in! If youre a Follower of JESUS, are you fearful or embarrassed to SHOUT His praise? People SHOUT in anger when something makes them mad and they dont care who hears them! Do we care more about what people think than what God thinks? People SHOUT their approval at an entertainment event and they do so without apology or self consciousness but we as the Followers of JESUS sometimes care more about the approval of men than the commendation of God Almighty! Fans at a sports event will SHOUT out in excitement when the game goes the way they want but the Followers of JESUS are sometimes not that passionate about the One Who has won much more than a game. Of course, the world needs to see a quiet confidence, a peaceful life and a contemplative spirit in us but the world also needs to hear us SHOUT to the LORD and joyfully give HIM our unashamed praise especially in the midst of challenge and discouragement. That SHOUT will speak of the inner peace and the inner joy that we as His Followers have. Today, spend some time in prayer, some time in worship, some time in quiet meditation and throw up a few SHOUTS to the One Who SHOUTS out HIS love for you and for the whole world!
