WPFW is a fabulous, very liberal, commercial free radio station - TopicsExpress

WPFW is a fabulous, very liberal, commercial free radio station broadcasting in the D.C. area…that is openly anti-semitic. Hateful even. After listening to a commentator give a blatantly one-sided view of the war in Israel, my husband sent the following email to the station manager. From: mark kreiser [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, August 05, 2014 2:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Fairness Michelle, What is it about Israel that brings out the worst in liberal media? I listened to a commentary this morning that blamed Israel entirely, along with U.S. supporters, for the tragedy in Gaza. Your broadcast included no mention of: 1. The rocket attacks from Gaza upon Israel. 2. The intent of Hamas to kill Israeli civilians, or the steps taken by Israel to reduce civilian casualties. 3. Hamas’ admitted abuse of its civilian population, including the placement of munitions and militants in schools and mosques, along with instructions to civilians not to evacuate areas that Israel warned would be targeted. 4. The deliberate omission of Hamas to construct bomb shelters that would have avoided many, if not most, of the civilian casualties. It is estimated that 800,000 tons of cement went into construction of tunnels for military and terror purposes, and not one pound of cement was used to build underground shelters for civilians. 5. The right of Israel to employ military action in response to violent attacks, and the right under international law to return fire toward any facility used for military purposes. 6. The failure of Hamas to build an economy or provide for the basic needs of the people. The substantial industry built by Israeli settlers, all of whom were forcibly evicted by Israel upon withdrawal, was either neglected or destroyed by Hamas. Greenhouses that could have continued food production were converted to tunnel entrances. 7. That Gaza’s border with Egypt was also closed, by Egypt, for security purposes, not simply to oppress a disadvantaged people. 8. That many of the civilians deaths in Gaza were the result of Hamas rocket and mortar misfires. Common sense dictates that with tens of thousands of homemade rockets and other munitions, more than one or two will land on Gaza’s civilian population. I don’t believe that Israel is blameless, either with regard to the conduct of its soldiers – that are not all angels – or with regard to the illegal settlements in the West Bank. But there are two sides to this story, something one would never know by listening to your broadcast. I missed the commentary you are referring to, but I am forwarding your comments to the Program Director. With a station that is as diverse in viewpoint as WPFW it can be challenging. But it is that diversity that is the station’s strength. I appreciate your concerns and feedback. M Always Be Your Best!
