WSM are holding a meeting in Belfast this Sunday (7th). Hope to see you there. Workers Solidarity Movement (Ireland) and Belfast Anarchists are hosting this event on sunday 7th December to discuss and plan action for the upcoming water charges protest in Dublin the following Wednesday. There is massive popular resistance to water charges in the south. More than a million households haven’t registered, over one hundred thousand have taken part in marches. thousands have stood up to Garda intimidation. To try and destroy the movement the state and media have fallen back on traditionally successful smear tactics that in the past have worked to isolate the militant minority from the mass of the population. This time around they have failed to the extent that large women only vigils against Garda brutality have taken place not only in the huge working class districts of Dublin but even in small rural towns. And on Facebook a brick has now received more likes than either government party. This in the aftermath of a protest in Jobstown when there was an enormous effort by the media to use the fact that a single brick had been thrown at a police car to frighten people. At this meeting we are going to hear about the local and online organising efforts that have seen the traditional smear tactics fail and consider what this means for building popular mass movements across the island. We will also be discussing mobilising to go down to Dublin for the enormous demonstration that is taking place on December 10th. The meeting takes place in Belfast at 2.00 in Realta on King street
