Walk to cure juvenile diabetes? No Im sorry I dont think I will. I appreciate all the thought behind it and I definitely appreciate that its a walk not a bake sale served with a side of cheap soft drink or something but I find it incredibly hard to believe that the money raised is actually going into making any significant changes in the research or knowledge of the disease at all. As far as I know the vast majority of it goes into advertising, campaigns and pay outs between co-companies! If I were going to ask people to sponsor me to walk a couple of ks - I feel as though the money would be much more beneficial to be used as payment for treatments and medication for myself or families that struggle even more so - as over time diabetic costs are very expensive. Or to put it towards getting an artificial pancreas for myself or for a younger child who might find it more difficult than the usual to inject so many times a day.. Maybe Im wrong and all of the money raised does go into research.. but its such a stray thought when you know theres been way over $800,000,000 dollars raised and donated within the last 15 years and no changes to anything - not even the dietary or medical system in endocrine hospital departments (which in my eyes could very well make the most significant and positive impact on the highest possible number of diabetic lives.) Rant not over.
