Walker unaware grant aimed at group By Mary Spicuzza Wisconsin State Journal MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday that he did not know the $500,000 sporting heritage grant lawmakers added to his budget plan was being steered toward the United Sportsmen of Wisconsin Foundation. And he said high-powered Republican donor Terry Kohler never contacted him about the outlay. “In our case, this was something that the Legislature added,” Walker said. “Certainly we did not include it in our budget. And it’s something where really my only involvement directly in it was when we issued our vetoes at the end of the process, and that was because it was made known to me at that time that there was a potential risk of some federal money.” But some other GOP leaders knew the grant was geared toward United Sportsmen.
