Walt: Lets break it down. Hydrogen... what does that give us? Gretchen: By mole, were looking at 63 percent. Walt (chuckling and writing up the numerical values on a chalkboard): Sixty-three? Wow! Gretchen: Mm-hmm. Walt: That is a big bite. My next steps gotta be oxygen. Gretchen: Oxygen. 26 percent. Walt: Twenty-six. There you have your water. Gretchen: Carbon. 9 percent. Walt: Carbon. Nine. Gretchen: For a total of 98 percent. Walt: Right. Gretchen: Nitrogen. 1.25 percent. Walt: One-point-two-five. Gretchen: That brings you to 99 and a quarter. Which only leaves you with the trace elements down where the magic happens. Walt: Oh, wait a minute.. What about Calcium? Calciums not a trace. Got a whole skeleton to account for. Gretchen: You would think, right? Walt: Right. Gretchen: Calcium. Calciums only 0.25 percent. Walt: What?! Gretchen: Uh-huh. Walt: That low? Gretchen: Mm-hm. Walt: Seriously? Damn, I never wouldve thought that. Okay.. so.. where does iron fit in? Gretchen: Iron. Wow, ok. 0.00004 percent. Walt (in disbelief): What? Gretchen (smiling): Mm-hm. Walt: You cant have hemoglobin without iron. (playfully tosses his chalk end-over-end through the air) Gretchen: Apparently, it dont take much. Walt: No doubt. Go figure. Ah, sodium! Gretchen: Sodium, 0.04. Phosphorous 0.19. Walt: Point-one-nine. There we go. So the whole thing adds up to 99.888042 percent. We are 0.111958 percent shy. Gretchen: Supposedly thats everything. Walt: Yeah. Gretchen: Mm-hm. Walt: It just.. it just.. seems like somethings missing, doesnt it? (Gretchen looks at him intently) Theres got to be more to a human being than that. (This entire discussion was interlaced in the show with the beginning scene, showing Jesse and Walt cleaning up the remains of drug-dealer, Emilios, affected body, disincorporeated by hydrochloric acid.) (the show passes and at the end, after having killed Krazy-8, the younger Walter and Gretchen, continued their discussion...) Walt: I dont know.. It seems like somethings missing... Gretchen: What about the soul? Walt (turns to her and laughs with a big smile, and swivels back to the board and back to her again, then stays turned around and continues looking, while eerie music is playing, then he walks towards her and leans over towards her, putting both his fists down on the desktop in front of her, like a crane, looming over her, moving to within two inches of her face and saying): The soul.
