Want to get fit without a gym membership?? Have I got a challenge for you!! We are extremely lucky in New Zealand to have so much beautiful scenery all around us. I love my gym, but sometimes its nice to make the most of what NZ has to offer and get outside in the fresh air. I also know many people either hate the gym or cant afford the weekly costs which can be fairly expensive. These stairs are located in Kennedy Park, Castor Bay and are fast becoming one of my favourite outdoor exercise activities.. this morning I managed to run up them 7 times, and Im aiming for 10 by the start of December. I am not a natural runner, in fact I find it about 10x harder than any other form of exercise I have tried, but these stairs are awesome as you can go at your own pace, with as many repeats as you can do.. and unlike a normal run, if you get so tired you cant do any more, the worst case is you have to walk back up the stairs... much better than being stuck 5km away from where you want to be, with the associated mental battle over whether it is acceptable to catch the bus home. The preparation has begun and Im on a mission to boost my fitness and be as fit and healthy as I can be for an active, awesome summer. If youre wanting to get fit or get in shape then I challenge you to pick an outdoor setting, whether its these stairs, or a new running route, whatever...Complete the exercise once monitoring time and how many you can do/how far you can go, then set yourself a goal for improvement by the start of December! I will be back there Sunday morning so if anyone wants a stairs buddy feel free to join :-)
