South Bend Firefighters’ Association, Inc. is a 501c3 organization that is well recognized and active in the community. They raise money for several charities, many of which are here in the Michiana area. SBFFA, Inc. is committed to raise awareness of Breast Cancer and have chosen the Young Survivors of Michiana to be their partner in this. SBFFA, Inc. have raised and donated close to $20,000.00 in the past four years. These funds stay right here in the community. The monies are used to help women under 40 that are at risk who are without proper health insurance coverage gain access to mammograms and subsequent biopsy tests. SBFFA, Inc. is also committed to raising money for the Hoosier Burn Camp. This is a program that exists for young burn survivors to be counseled, and provides a place for them to just have fun. Most burn survivors must undergo several surgeries and countless hours of rehab and, may not have the opportunity to just hang out with friends and just be a kid. SBFFA, Inc. holds an annual event called the Firefighters Blues Fest. Over the past 15 years they have been able to donate close to $75,000.00 to allow these young burn survivors to attend the Hoosier Burn camp. In addition money raised from this campaign SBFFA, Inc. was also able to help purchase a new Survive Alive House for the South Bend Fire Department’s Public Education division. This is a state of the art trailer that is used to teach the community about fire safety and key survival skills in the unfortunate event of a house fire. It is also equipped with a sprinkler system to demonstrate the importance of sprinklers in the home. SBFFA, Inc. has an agreement with the South Bend Fire Dept. to be responsible for all maintenance costs of the House. South Bend Firefighters’ Association was also able to raise $1500.00 through T-Shirt sales for the families of the Prescott Arizona Firefighter’s. These were the brave men and women who so tragically lost their lives this year in a terrible wild fire. South Bend Firefighters’ Association, Inc. frequently donates to countless other charities in the community throughout the year. In addition the SBFFA, Inc. allows other non-for-profits the use of their banquet hall, so that they are able to raise money for their own respective charities. To name a few in recent memory: Logan Center, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Angie’s Angles, Chet Waggoner Little League, Clay High School Athletic Booster Club, and many others. If South Bend Firefighters’ Association, Inc. is chosen to be the recipient of one these gifts it is without a doubt the money will be used in a responsible manner. SBFFA, Inc. is committed to doing their part in improving the lives of others in our community. Please give them strong consideration for this gift. Thank You, Mathew Willoughby Treasurer Local 362
