Warning: Lengthy post.... :D Friends, for a while I have been thinking of making best use of the second chance that Almighty has blessed me with. To add my bit towards a better world........ Cancer is the word that usually is linked to a one way ticket to heaven(or hell). This is despite an exponential progress in the field of medicine in the modern world! Lack of awareness is a major factor contributing to the downward spiral in the psyche of most of the patients. Once they get into depression and slip into a quicksand of self pity, they just give up. Relatives and friends with partial or no knowledge of cancer aggravate the problem, most of the times while thinking that they are shielding the patient. My intent is to share my experiences with the individuals who have been chosen to fight this battle. I feel positive attitude will go a long way in ensuring that the battle against this dreaded disease is fought the way it should be. Patients HAVE to be transformed into Warriors. Yes, this is not going to be an easy task. It will take time and effort to instill that level of confidence and positive outlook in the affected individuals. This humble beginning, I hope, will grow into a sustained movement with more volunteers joining the bandwagon. I have two requests - 1. If you know anyone diagnosed with cancer, who you think, can benefit from such an interaction with a cancer survivor, do let me know. At this time, I will be able to cover Mangalore and surrounding places, mostly during weekends. Preferred meeting venue would be their comfort zone. 2. If you know a fellow warrior - a survivor - who is willing to join this effort as a volunteer, please ask them to get in touch with me This will be an adhoc effort initially. As more people join the initiative, it will become more stream lined. PS: a) I am NOT doing it for any financial gain (whatever I am doing is purely voluntary...) b) No fame is sought and privacy of individuals will be ensured Intent is ONLY to create awareness that Cancer is a disease that CAN and must be fought and defeated.
