Warri Wolves want CAF Cup as parting gift for Uduaghan PLAYERS and officials of Warri Wolves have promised to win the 2015 CAF Confederations Cup as parting gift to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his ‘wonderful’ contribution to sports development in the state. They also want to win the title to usher in the new governor.Wolves battled hard on the last day of the 2014 season to grab a point against Nasarawa United in Lafia to finish third in the league. It earned them a ticket to represent Nigeria in the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup.The club has been drawn against RC Bobo Dioulasso of Burkina Faso in the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup.Some players and officials of the club who spoke with The Guardian said they would remain grateful to Uduaghan’s administration for his financial and morale support to the team in the past eight years. They were particularly grateful for the governor’s prompt response to issues concerning the welfare of players and officials of the club.“Apart from his love for Warri Wolves, many athletes and coaches will not forget Uduaghan’s administration in a hurry because the governor made it possible for them to be employed. He also turned many of them to millionaires at the end of the National Sports festival in Kaduna ‘2009, Garden City 2011 and Eko 2012. His administration didso much for sports and we pray that the governor who will take over next year will follow Uduaghan’s footprint in sports development,” one of the players said in a chat withThe Guardian.Meanwhile, Warri Wolves have signed five new players, including Bayelsa United’s Peter Ebimobowei for the new season expected to begin in March. The other signings are Enyimba midfielder Ayo Saka, Crown FC striker Onyekachi Okafor, Akwa United’s Kufre Ebong and Sunshine Stars defender Solomon Kwambe.Ebimobowei was one of the leading scorers in the just concluded season with 18 goals. The management of Warri Wolves also plans to promote two players from their youth team. The club has sacked 12 players and retained 23 for the coming season.
