Was at Tamarind restaurant, where a badly mannered man with children that shouldnt be allowed out, pulled the race card on the waiter who asked him to keep his children in check. The children had been screaming and fiddling with the Christmas tree on display at the restaurant entrance, and trying to open the presents. Upon being told that his kids and his flash photography (he told each of them to pose with the tree while keeping on a constant flash directly into the eyes of everyone in the restaurant) were disturbing the customers, he said, what, the wazungu?? - even though only two of the five occupied tables were white. He then started shouting at other waiters that he deserved an apology, and was very rude about the whole thing. Its made me suddenly doubt some of the racist incidents that have happened in Kenya. There are people here that are so quick to pull out the race card when they dont get their way, and this made me see a whole other side that could potentially be the case in some racist incidents (anyone remember the viral photo of the white guy who stuck up his middle finger to a woman and was racist to her while driving, even though we later found out his Kenyan wife was sitting in the car?). It also reminded me that money never ever ever buys class.
