Was really sad to learn of the passing of James Garner. For what he did in films and television, Garner established a benchmark. Regardless of his charisma on screen...he was an astute actor. I have never seen a role where he phoned it in. Garner was both a movie star and a legitimate artist. You cannot count on ten fingers the number of performers he has influenced either directly or indirectly. In this clip from the 1964 military dramedy The Americanization of Emily with Julie Andrews, Garner delivers a sharp though understated spew of patriotic venom...sans the Toby Keith bludgeon, the Lee Greenwood marzipan schmaltzy jingoisms or the arrogant and over zealous bravado of John Wayne. James Garner was one of the good guys on and off the screen. I for one will miss him. Thank you.
