Washington wine lovers- look what we have in! Mmmmm! WealthByWine Our Frisch (Gr: Fresh) wines are fresh, fruity and infinitely memorable. Handcrafted with both German-style know-how and French flair, Frisch is the embodiment of Alsatian-style wines — reflective of two cultures blended together in perfect harmony. As WineShop At Home has already explored different countries with excellent winemaking abilities, we now further explore different states other than California. This Riesling was produced in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. This AVA is the largest wine region in the state of Washington, including over 11,000,000 acres of which over 40,000 acres are planted in vineyards. The Riesling variety has distant relatives like Sylvaner and crosses like Emerald Riesling with Muscadelle. There are more than 60 selected Riesling clones available to meet various flavor and growing condition criteria. These vines are particularly tolerant to cold weather, well suited to the coldest winegrowing regions like Alsace, Austria, South Africa, Southern California, Oregon and Washington State. The berries are small, round and soft when ripe. Hanging in compact clusters and ripening later than other varieties makes it the perfect candidate for producing dessert wine like Ice wine. In Germany, where it has been cultivated since the 1400s, Riesling is made into dry and crisp wine or Botrytis-affected late-picked, known as the sweet family of Auslese. Its high natural level of Tartaric acid allows for high levels of residual sugar to be left into the wine without losing any balance. Our 2012 Frisch Columbia Valley, Washington Riesling has a pale color in the robe. The nose is refreshing and complex. Pear and green apple are taking over the attack. We also have some bright floral characters all over the finish. The mouth gives us a sweet sensation. Indeed, this wine was kept on lees for almost a year, which resulted in an amazing and generous mouthfeel. The weight on the palate is such that it will be easy to call for a lot of residual sugar. These “Sur Lies” flavors fill up the glass with citrus, lychee, honey and ripe lime. The palate is soft and juicy with a smooth finish. This wine is ready to enjoy now and for the next 3 years. This 2012 Frisch Riesling displays many layers of flavors giving numerous opportunities for food pairing with a delicate grilled fish, earthy soup, pasta with shellfish or Asian Cuisine. Cheeses such as Cheddar, Brie or Gouda will also pair well with this wine.
