Watch Downton Abbey Go Wild for George Clooney’s Guest Appearance BY JOANNA ROBINSON DECEMBER 22, 2014 9:44 AM We’ve been hearing about it for months and it’s finally here: Geroge Clooney at Downton Abbey! The charity special, part of British broadcaster ITV’s annual Text Santa fundraiser, aired Friday night and, no surprise, brought in £5.5M to benefit UK charities. Though this short from the cast of Downton Abbey wasn’t the only video (Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Rebel Wilson, Simon Cowell, and Carey Mulligan all leant a hand), it certainly is the main event. A twist on an It’s A Wonderful Life, the 9-minute sketch features all your Downton Abbey favorites as well as Joanna Lumley from Absolutely Fabulous and Jeremy Piven playing his Mr. Selfridge character. Some of the bits work better than others (for example, Piven’s Mr. Selfridge jokes fall a little flat if you don’t watch that series), but it’s all worth it to see Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess react the way we all would when smooched by Clooney –– or, as he’s referred to here, The Most Honorable George Ocean’s Gravity, Marquis of Hollywood. I think that’s what we should all call him from now on, don’t you? Come for Mosley’s tattoos, stay for the Jazz Age selfie.
