Watch and Act Issued For: Donnybrook, Epping, Kalkallo, Lalor, Somerton, Roxburgh Park, Campbellfield, Craigieburn Fire Origin: EPPING Incident Name: HUME FWY Issued: 17/01/14 1:29 PM This is a Watch and Act message issued by Country Fire Authority for Donnybrook, Epping, Kalkallo, Lalor, Somerton, Roxburgh Park, Campbellfield, Craigieburn. There are multiple fires along the Hume highway stretching from Beveridge towards the Metropolitan Ring Road. These grassfires are currently not yet under control. The Hume freeway is closed at Cooper Street. If you live next to grassland and a grassfire starts, you need to quickly put two or three houseblocks between you and the fire. AVOID DRIVING in a grassfire because it may be smoky and hard to see, and traffic jams and accidents are likely. ACT EARLY - dont wait to receive a warning before moving two to three houseblocks away from a grassfire. If you dont live directly next to grassland and a grassfire starts, its safer to STAY WHERE YOU ARE because its unlikely the fire will spread past fences and houses. Dont try to get a closer look at a grassfire - you will put yourself and others in danger. If you are on the road: Travel to. - The home of family or friends that is away from the warning area. . When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see. . The next update is expected by 17/01/14 5:00 PM or as the situation changes. Safety Information: Remember to take your prescriptions and medication, photo ID, bottles of water, your mobile phone and charger and consider what you will do with your pets.
