Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit - TopicsExpress

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 Do you know why Jesus Christ spoke unto Peter these words in the outlined scripture? It is because He was warning him of not entering or giving into the temptation of the flesh. Christ sees and knows all things my dearly beloveds and even before we know what the next minute or hour holds Christ already sees it. He told Peter to watch and pray or to be strengthened in the inner man so that when the trial which was soon to come was come, then he would not have yielded to the temptation of the flesh. When Judas came to later betray Jesus the very same Peter who was sleeping (feeding the flesh) was the very same one which yielded unto that which Christ warned him of not entering into before it was at hand. Peter stretched forth his hand and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priests and smote off his ear (vs 51). Oh how often have we failed to watch and pray (draw nigh to God and strengthen our spirits) but instead we chose to sleep and do those things which are only desired of by the flesh. For whatever we feed then thats what we are lead by. If we feed the flesh like Peter who slept rather than pray then when the trials arise we shall only give into the weakness of the flesh like Peter did. Be like Christ today, who knew of the imposing danger and inevitable betrayal that was to come and He went to pray and be strengthened in Spirit so that when the enemy came in, He nevertheless stood in perfect standing with God. Christ prayed and never yielded to the flesh and when Judas came He called him friend while Peter on the other hand slept and when temptation came he was weak and as such yielded to it. Watch and pray today as Christ did, for the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak!
