Watched The Passion of the Christ this morning and this movie is great, but it is one of the heaviest films I have ever seen. Like 12 Years a Slave was grave this movie is grave, but unlike 12 Years a Slave this movie sees nobody coming to rescue Jesus from the cross. There is a small scene of his resurrection, though. The thing is when I was watching this movie I couldnt help but realize that this kind of brutality thrived at certain times in human history. I can tell you now Id probably be like the guy who was forced to help Christ carry his cross. Id probably hesitate in the beginning because I dont like to get involved and then with enough jabs of pressure Id most likely give in and help the doomed hero. Anyway, I say all this because this movie was so heavy for me. Its a profound movie. Jim Caviezel was excellent as Jesus Christ and it makes me wonder why he wasnt nominated for an Oscar for his performance. Maybe because this is a religious film. Still, this is simply a great film. There are a lot of scenes that are hard to watch in this movie. It can take you to some low places. All in all The Passion of the Christ is a very visual film and Mel Gibson does a superb job of directing it and it is a film that brings out some hard managed emotions. The Passion of the Christ is PURE AWESOME, but its not a film that I can watch over and over. Much like 12 Years a Slave this movie can be a bit too much. Its very heavy.
