Watching the 60 Minutes coverage of the Daniel Morcombe case was quite distressing. I feel for the parents and that poor boy who had his life taken from him by that animal. When you consider that Brett Peter Cowan had served very light sentences in the past for his pedophile acts against two other young boys you realise just how broken our justice system is and how avoidable Daniels death was if we just kept Cowan in gaol. I hope he never gets released. Hearing one of his other victims, now a grown man speak was quite moving - the distress that Cowan has caused that poor bloke can never be corrected - he has suffered all his life because of it.. Hearing his ex-girlfriend from the early 90s speak of what he did to one of their neighbors was equally very disturbing. Bruce and Denise Morcombe have suffered a terrible tragedy and borne a great burden. They have been dignified throughout this last 10 years and shown incredible strength. I hope they can finally get some closure. To all the bleeding heart civil libertarian types that think we need to give people like Cowan second and third chances I hope you think long and hard about the devastation that these sick bastards who are beyond reform, inflict on innocent people when they get let off lightly and are allowed to roam amongst us looking for their next victim. Rest in peace Daniel - your mum & dad never gave up.
